Study on the Impact of Home Care on the Health Level of the Elderly—— An Empirical Analysis Based on CFPS 2020

Abstract

Based on the representative follow-up survey data of the 2020 China family panel studies (CFPS), this paper uses the ordered probit model to explore the effect of family care on the health level of the elderly and compare the heterogeneity between urban and rural family care. The results show that the more often children take care of household chores or diet for their parents, the better their self-rated health level is. Parents who are close to their children also have better self-rated health level. Old people who are taken care of by their family members when they are sick have poor self-rated health level. In addition, in the test of urban and rural heterogeneity, it is found that the frequency of care provided by children in rural areas has a significant impact on the health of the elderly. In view of the analysis results above, this paper further puts forward policy suggestions to improve the nursing ability of family members and strengthen the family care function to help the elderly enjoy their old age better, so as to promote the high-quality development of elderly health services and better achieve healthy aging and active aging.
