Research on the Mechanism of Platform Economy Promoting Basic Medical Insurance Participation of Young Informal Employees

Abstract

Objective: The paper explores the impact of the development of platform economy on medical insurance coverage of young informal employees, in order to provide assistance for the accurate expansion of healthcare security in China. Methods: Based on the national survey data of informal employment by the research group of Chinese Academy of Labour and Social Security, we selected samples aged under 45, the logit regression model and PSM logit was used, Stata 16.0 was applied for for statistical analysis. Results: Employment through Internet platforms helps informal employees acquire more medical insurance information, thereby promoting their participation in medical insurance. This effect is more significant in promoting employees' basic medical insurance participation, with informal employees who acquire information about medical insurance being 9.8% more likely to participate in employees' basic medical insurance than those who do not. Conclusion: To improve the insurance coverage of young informal employees and achieve the accurate expansion of healthcare security, the government needs to strengthen publicity with more flexible methods to cope with the insurance coverage of this group.
